This Strategic Plan marks an important national moment. Not simply the release of a strategy, but the continuation of a movement grounded in the voices, experiences and leadership of thousands of First Nations women, girls and gender-diverse people.

It carries forward years of deep listening across the continent, moving from listening into coordinated, sustained systems change, building the national infrastructure needed to recognise, support and sustain the leadership First Nations women have always held.

This Plan puts in place the foundations of our visionary work from 2026 to 2030, held accountable to the generational aspirations of First Nations women, girls, Sistergirls and gender-diverse peoples, as set out in our Change Agenda for First Nations Gender Justice.

"The solutions already exist within our communities. The leadership already exists. The knowledge already exists. What has been missing is a system that sees it, values it, and works with it."— June Oscar AO, Chair, Wiyi Yani U Thangani Institute

Our mission

To reweave the social fabric by elevating the voices, knowledges and lived experiences of First Nations women, girls and gender-diverse people, and build collaborations with all system actors to collectively heal and regenerate caring, peaceful systems and realise First Nations gender justice.

Our Institute is holds three Strategic Priority Areas that guide our projects, programs and research.

Our Strategic Priorities are the key areas through which the Institute will drive change against all layers of the Change Agenda outcomes, with a specific focus on achieving the Institute outcomes. The Institute will design and implement projects across these priorities in collaboration with, and always grounded in, the voices of First Nations women, girls (inclusive of Sistergirls and trans women) and gender-diverse people.
