Ongoing Merit Pool

Ongoing

We understand that between all different roles and responsibilities that First Nations women, girls and gender-diverse peoples hold that it can sometimes be difficult to apply for opportunities within a strict timeframe. To create equal opportunities for everyone, we welcome all First Nations women, girls and gender-diverse peoples (inclusive of all gender identities, sexuality and abilities), and allies to express interest to future opportunities that may arise at the Institute.

What is the Merit Pool?

The Institute is keen to support First Nations women, girls and gender-diverse peoples to engage in our projects, events and opportunities whenever they are available. These opportunities will be aligned with our Strategic Priorities and may build on existing projects. Recognising that women all have skills, knowledge and expertise that contribute to this work, but may not have time available when Expressions of Interest emerge. To make opportunities accessible, we are creating a pool of applicants that we can contact when opportunities to engage emerge. By providing your details and answering the questions in the EOI form, the Institute team will assess whether you might be a good fit for an upcoming project and contact you if you are interested.

We will also add your details to a mailing list specific for Institute opportunities so you can confirm your interest when the time comes.

Who can apply?

All First Nations Women, girls (12+) and gender-diverse peoples are welcome to apply. Allies are also welcome to apply, however, limited opportunities may be available that are open to allies.

We especially encourage applications from mob who are often underrepresented, including:

  • Trans women and Sistergirls
  • Gender-diverse mob
  • Those living with disability and/or who are neurodivergent
  • Mob from remote and regional communities
  • Elders and senior knowledge holders
  • Young women and girls (aged 12+)
  • Mob with caring responsibilities for children, Elders or family members
  • Those with dependent children (children under 12 can attend free)

You don't need to identify with any of these groups to apply - if you're a First Nations woman, girl or gender-diverse person who wants to attend, we want to hear from you.

What are we looking for?

In selecting women, girls and gender-diverse persons for opportunities, we'll consider:

  • Your expertise, knowledge and role aligned to the opportunity available
  • Your commitment to First Nations Gender Justice
  • How the opportunity will benefit you and your development
  • How you plan to share your learnings with your community
  • Your connection to/or involvement with First Nations women, girls and gender-diverse peoples
  • Geographic diversity (ensuring we support mob from different parts of Australia)
  • Diversity of experiences and identities

There's no perfect application. We want to hear your voice and your story in your own words.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will I hear back about my EOI?

As this is an open merit pool, it may take a while or be a short wait until the next Institute opportunity emerges. We will send you a curtesy email with any opportunities that do emerge so you can respond confirming your interest. Your EOI does not guarantee your engagement in future opportunities, as the Institute team will assess whether it is compatible with your skills, interests, and expertise.

Do I have to fill out opportunity specific EOI forms when opportunities arise even if I've completed this one?

No, this form serves as your application to future opportunities. However, we may follow up with future questions should it be necessary for the specific project or event.

Can I withdraw my EOI?

Yes, email us on wyut@anu.edu.au anytime to withdraw your EOI. This will remove you from our opportunities specific email list.
